In addition to being a sculptor, Remy Cornelissen was also a lithographer and jewelery designer. He was educated at the Antwerp Academy and NHISKA. Under the influence of Ernest Wijnants, whom he regarded as his great teacher, he came to expressionist sculpture. Cornelissen processed various materials, with a preference for hard stone.

The vulnerability of man and his connection with the animal were central. As a teacher he was affiliated with the Academy of Turnhout and Antwerp and the Athenea of Berchem and Sint-Niklaas. From 1974 he was mainly active as a graphic artist.
